Do you ever feel like everyone else is good at selling, but not you? Like everyone else is getting clients, making money and finding the whole thing easy?

Well let me tell you something, if people aren’t buying from you, there’s a reason. But, here’s the really good news — 99% of the time it’s something totally fixable :-)

Over my 5 years as a business coach, I’ve noticed that these are the most common reasons that prospects aren’t buying from you. Notice if any catch your attention…

  1. You’re not selling anything!

  2. You’re not asking for the sale!

  3. Your money mindset is sabotaging you

  4. You’re not screening people before sales calls

  5. You don’t have a strategy behind your sales calls

Now, let’s dive a little bit deeper into each one of these.

#1 — If you’re not selling anything, you cannot possibly expect people to buy from you. Sending emails, doing FB Lives and posting on social media won’t automatically get you sales if you’re not selling anything. If you want more sales, figure out what you want to sell and start talking about it.

#2 — Once you decide that you’re selling, you need to actually invite people to buy from you. Send personal emails, DMs and Loom videos. Make a wish list of your dream clients and reach out to them directly. Don’t just rely on sales emails and some social promos to do the selling for you. Prospects like a personal touch! (Just think about your own buying behavior!)

#3 — Another thing that can trip us up is our Money Mindset. If you constantly feel like you’re charging too much and can’t even say the price of your offer without blushing, you need to make releasing those money blocks a priority. Notice the most common negative thought offenders and address them head on. Ask yourself, “is this thought even true?” and then make it your mission to disprove it!

#4 — If you’re getting people on sales calls, but nobody's buying, one issue might be that you’re talking to people who aren’t actually a good fit for your offer, which tells me that you need to screen people. This is simple as having people answer a few questions related to your area of expertise, their struggles and their goals so that you can pre-determine if it’s worth your time getting on the phone with them.

#5 — This one is a big one. If you’re not using a sales call strategy, you have no way of evaluating what’s working and what isn’t. Every time I get on a sales call, I follow the same 8-step process that I know works really well. Sure, not everyone says YES, but because I’ve refined this process over the years, I know that it gets all the right people to say YES!

Do you know the primary thing that holds us back in business (and life)?

You may be thinking it might be a lack of training, lack of money or lack of ambition. But no. I’ve not found that to be true.

The #1 thing that holds us back is...

Our limiting beliefs — the things we think are true and therefore reinforce for ourselves, consciously and subconsciously, day in and day out.

And today, we’re going to bust through some myths that you might be buying into when it comes to growing and scaling your business.

If you’ve hit a plateau in your business when it comes to your time, energy or income, you’re likely unknowingly believing one (or all!) of these common myths about scaling your business.

But here’s the good news...

Once you see the belief for what it really is — just an unhelpful myth — you can choose new beliefs that do serve you and allow you to scale your business with ease.

Here are some common myths about scaling your business:

  1. You need to have lots of offers in order to scale
    This is one I see ALL THE TIME, and I’m excited to “bust” it today! You do not need a lengthy menu of services to scale to 6-figures or beyond. The best and easiest way to grow your business quickly is with ONE signature offer.   2. You can’t scale high-ticket offers
    Most people think you can only scale with an info-product. But that is totally bogus! You can totally scale a high-ticket offer without it eating up any more of your time or energy. You can hire a team member to help you, train mentors to coach alongside you, transform it into a group program, or some other brilliant leveraged idea.   3. You need to have a complex funnel to help you scale
    As our business grows, things naturally get more complex. But that doesn’t mean we need to make them unnecessarily complex — or fear complexity so we don’t do anything at all. Yes, a tricked-out funnel (if it converts well) will help you scale, but that’s not where you start. The first thing you need to consider is how you can rejig your signature offer so that you can enroll people into at any time. Once you map out how that can happen, growth will naturally occur because you won’t have to “shut the doors”. You can keep enrolling as you find new people!

  4. You need to “wait” until you’re more ready/skilled/rich/etc. before you scale
    If you’ve been in a business a few years and are making at least $2K/month consistently, it’s time to think about how to scale up. You don’t get to 6-figures by accident. You get there intentionally! So, stop waiting for “someday” when you’re “ready”, and start taking action now. You’ll thank yourself for it later!   5. You need to have a big team before you scale
    False! You can lay the groundwork for scaling right now by setting up simple systems that make your workflow easier. I’ve got some seemingly counterintuitive advice for you today, and I promise you that if you implement this, it’ll change everything in your business for the better.

Ready? Here it is...

If you want to make MORE money in your business with more ease, have FEWER offers.

On the surface, this advice might seem cuckoo bananas (as my 5 year old would say).

Why would you scale back your offerings in order to increase revenue? Won’t that eliminate sales? Won’t that reduce the number of potential clients?

No. 

And here is why...

When you have a full menu of offers, it splits your focus and divides your energy, and it confuses your potential clients.

If you are making less than $100K per year in your business, my best advice is to pick ONE signature offer (preferably a high-ticket one-on-one service) and ride it all the way to 6-figures.


Let’s dive into 2 (fictional) examples to really drive this home:

Sally is a solopreneur which means she has to manage all the pieces of the business herself. In January she launches her 1x1 offer and gets 5 clients (she wanted 10) and makes $25,000. Disappointed, in February she spends the entire month creating a new group program because she was freaked out that the price of her 1x1 was too high. In March she gets 8 clients for her group program (she wanted 15) and makes $16,000. In April, again freaked out that she’s charging too much, she uses all her working hours to build a course and decides to sell it for $500. In May she opens the doors to the course and wants 25 sales but only gets 5 for a total of $2500. Because of this, Sally decides not to hire the VA that she desperately needs to help her manage all these programs. She thinks that her audience must “not be buyers” and after 3 weeks of creation time launches an intro offer for $50. She gets 10 sales making $500, but she wanted 30 sales. It’s now June, and she’s questioning everything and worrying that her business won’t survive. She stops working with her coach in order to save money.

Total Sales in 6 months: $44,000 (Let’s be clear, this sales number is GREAT! But the thing is, Sally isn’t feeling great about it, and she has 4 offers to manage without assistance.) 


Melissa is also a solopreneur who has ONE $5000 signature offer. In January she launches it and gets 4 clients (she wanted 10), but that doesn’t deter her. In February she tests new marketing and gets another 3 clients. In March she puts some energy into getting interviewed on podcasts and gets another 2 clients. In April, she does a more formal launch and utilizes all the best strategies she’s learned over the last few months and gets 6 clients. She hires a VA to help her manage her client load. In May she decides to intentionally pause enrollment and take 2 weeks off, and in June because of sheer momentum and word of mouth she gets another 2 clients. Melissa then decides to enroll in a high-level mastermind that she’s been eyeing up that will help her continue to scale her business to new heights.

Total Sales in 6 months: $85,000 (Notice that Melissa actually had fewer distinct sales than Sally overall (17 vs. 28), but her determination to stick with her ONE high-ticket offer made all the difference. Melissa is easily on track to surpass $100K in revenue this year.)


Now ask yourself: Which situation would you rather be in? Which business would you rather manage?

When we commit to ONE offer, it gives us focus, power and momentum. And, then we can point all of our marketing, energy and content toward that ONE offer. It streamlines everything! This is what creates forward motion for your business and allows you to ease up on the hustle energy you might be feeling.

10 Signs You Are The Bottleneck of Your Business

It’s storytime :-)

A while back, I was on a weekly team call with my 2 team members, and we were just about to wrap it up when my operations director said she had something to share. She and my community manager then told me — very lovingly of course — that they needed me to stop micromanaging and allow them to take full ownership of their roles (without me hovering or changing things all the time).

You might think I was hurt or offended, but that’s not what I felt at all. I actually felt extremely relieved!!! Like a huge weight had been lifted. 

I hate to admit it, but I was becoming the bottleneck of my business.

I hadn’t realized how much I was carrying and controlling even though I have 2 amazingly talented and smart team members to help me. I was still functioning like a solopreneur, trying to manage every single aspect of my business and force things along. It was exhausting, and I didn’t even realize it.

I’m sharing this with you because I know there are some of you here in my community who are becoming a bottleneck, just like I was. So, first let me share some signs to be aware of, and then let me explain why this is actually an immense opportunity for you.

Signs that you might be the bottleneck of your business:

  1. Revenue has plateaued

  2. You feel worn out but aren’t exactly sure why

  3. You keep “running sprints” to make money, instead of laying a solid, scalable foundation

  4. You’re trying to do ALL THE THINGS in your business

  5. You keep thinking, “I want to hire people”, but don’t know how or where to start

  6. If you have team members, you feel like you need to check on things regularly

  7. You move quickly all the time and wish you could slow down

  8. You’re lacking systems + automated processes (but “don’t have the time” to set those things up)

  9. You feel like you’re always playing catch-up and can’t get ahead

  10. You spend all your time serving your current clients which leaves you no time for important (and exciting!) projects that could help you simplify + scale your business

You Can Have The Life You Want

In case no one’s told you lately...

You can have the life you want.

But, let me warn you, the minute you commit to this belief, you are going to be asked on the regular to grow, expand and change.

When you hold the belief that “I can have the life I want”, life hears you and supports you, but things don’t always come in the package that we’re expecting.

  • We want a successful business, but instead we have 3 years of struggle before we hit our stride. In retrospect we realize we learned a ton of valuable lessons about how NOT to run a business and are better because of the hard years.

  • We think we want to get back to the size and shape we were in our early 20s, but instead find new ways to love and accept ourselves, and realize that we’re actually happier now.

  • We want to be the “perfect mom”, but notice that the moments that challenge us the most are also showing us our growth edge. They give us something to explore within ourselves, which teaches our kids that we’re all human and are committed to doing better.

  • We think we want life to be smooth sailing all the time, but realize that the bumpy moments — and even the really, really hard moments — make us grow, do better, and also appreciate the good times all the more.

You can have the life you want. I believe truly and fully believe this, but I’m also learning to leave room for life to teach me, expand me and know better than me. For the messy stuff that I used to try to avoid.

I used to think (and still sometimes do) that if things weren’t going the way I pictured in my mind, it meant I was off track. Now, I’m stepping into the idea that when things aren’t going the way I planned inside my own head, it probably means that I’m being redirected in a better and brighter direction. Even if that’s hard to see right now.

I hadn’t planned to be educating myself on racial equity, speaking out about Black Lives Matter and learning about Systemic Racism in our country. But here I am, embracing this lesson life is presenting to all of us right now and doing my best to learn and grow and do better.

“You can have the life you want” is a centering thought I come back to when my mind (or the world) seems to be spiraling out of control. It grounds me in my truth, brings me back to this moment, and asks me what I can do right now - today - to move toward that life I want for me, my family, my community, our country and the world.

My Core Values for Life + Business

I often state that I value “time, lifestyle and family”. I share those values openly on my website, in my Facebook Groups, on my podcast and when I’m speaking to virtual or live audiences.

But, there are other values I hold dearly that up until today I have not explicitly shared — and it’s time to do so.

I recently spent some time defining the overarching values I hold for my business, and here’s what I came up with. (They are a work in progress and will become clearer and more refined as my team and I build them intentionally into the business.)

  • Integrity + Respect Act in alignment with what is right + true, even if it’s hard to do so. Be respectful of others as they do the same. Treat others fairly and respectfully -- as you, yourself, would like to be treated.

  • Open-Hearted Inclusivity All are welcome. All are seen. All are heard. EVERYONE is treated with respect, even if their viewpoint is different than yours. Aim to build people up, not knock them down.

  • Open-Minded Expansion Be open to new ways of thinking + doing. Don't close yourself off before giving someone or something a chance. Be curious.

  • Personal Responsibility — Be true to your word. Take ownership of your thoughts, your words and your actions -- and the life those things create for you. Don't play the victim. Stop making excuses. Do better.

  • Time Freedom Honor the value of time, both your time and other people's time. It’s a precious commodity. Understand that you cannot create a spacious life without making freedom of time a priority.

  • Multi-Dimensional Success Success looks different to everyone, and success is about more than just money. Success also includes things like freedom of time, a healthy body and mind, nourishing relationships with family + friends, personal development, spiritual growth, community service, and more.

Above and beyond that, I want to share some things about myself that I have implied in the past but never stated directly. Here goes...

  • I am spiritual, but not religious. I believe that there is an energy that connects us all and flows to and through us. I believe we can either move with this energy or pinch it off, but it is always there.

  • I am a democrat. I don’t like Trump. I never refer to him as “the president” — I don’t think he deserves that title. I miss Obama.

  • I believe in women’s rights. Their right to choose. Their right to say no. Their right to equal pay. Their right to equal opportunities. I wouldn’t call myself a feminist, but I guess I am.

  • I believe in HUMAN RIGHTS. Black lives matter. Love is love. No human is illegal.

  • I believe Systemic Racism exists and is a real problem that we cannot ignore any longer. I am actively working to understand how to use my White Privilege to help others, do better and teach my girls differently.

If me sharing these aspects of myself makes you want to unsubscribe from my list, I completely respect that. That is your right.

My hope, though, is that me sharing these things with you empowers you to openly state where you stand and no longer just “imply” it, as I have done for too long. Implying is not enough any more.

Mandy Barbee is the founder of Palladium Mind and a certified clinical hypnotherapist and NLP professional and coach. She earned a MA in Economics in 2009, and a BS in Economics from the US Air Force Academy in 2005.

She studied neuro linguistic programming extensively in London and New Mexico, and holds more than 500 in-residence hours of training + education as a certified hypnotherapist. She is also a certified yoga instructor.
