The REAL Meaning of Clarity + How to Find It

I’m calling myself out here. I know that I talk about “finding Clarity” a lot.

Clarity about what you want your life + business to look like.
Clarity about what success on your terms feels like.
Clarity about what inspired action steps to take next to move you forward.

I also know that having the pressure of “finding Clarity” resting on your shoulders can be crushing. So, I want to clarify ::wink wink:: with you today is what I really mean when I say it’s important to “find Clarity” and how you can find the Clarity you need right now.

First off, it's all Clarity. The good. The bad. The wins. The losses. The super high-highs. And the super low-lows. Whether the step you took was a huge success or a difficult learning experience, it's all Clarifying. (If something totally wasn’t what you expected, at least you clearly know what you don’t want now!)

Everything (yes, everything!) you do/think/create/say/become/try is moving you in the right direction to a clearer place of deeper understanding of who you truly are and what you truly want to create, offer and deliver into the world.

Clarity isn't a fixed destination. It's a journey.

And it can be found one decision at a time. One small baby step at time. Clarity is uncovered through action.

Clarity isn’t about quantum leaps (most of the time at least), it’s about small decisions made every day that move you in the right direction.

Show up. Do your work. Share it with the people who need it. Repeat.

You don't need to see the whole plan and know every single twist and turn along the way (if we knew that, we might never take the leap!). Just take the next step, and trust it's all unfolding just as it should....because it is. Always.

Vulnerability, Inner Guidance + Slowing Down

Vulnerability, Inner Guidance + Slowing Down

I’m trying something new here, and I want to know what you think.

I’ve recently been doing a lot of journaling, especially in the early mornings following my meditation practice.

My goal during these early morning writings is to get out of my own way (and out of my own head), and let my inner guidance come through.

I’m often surprised at what arrives on the paper. It’s stuff that I ultimately believe and know to be true, but the simplicity of the guidance comes from somewhere other than my logical brain. It’s a deeper knowing, a deeper truth, that seems to land on the paper.

After doing this for a number of days, an idea arrived that I should share this with you. (Not something I was originally planning to do, but when inspiration strikes, I like to trust it.)

So...I’ve decided to be super vulnerable and share one of those entries with you today, and if you like it -- if it’s helpful to you in any way -- please let me know.

Here goes :-)

This Is What You’ve Been Waiting For…

I’ve come to realize something.

When it comes down to it, we’re all waiting for just ONE THING.

And, that ONE THING holds us back from so many things we want in life.

It keeps us from…

Starting the business
Quitting the job
Saying YES!
Saying No
Going after the dream guy or girl
Speaking our minds
Playing bigger

Slowing down
Calling it quits
Starting something new
Investing in ourselves and our businesses
Living our fullest, most joy-filled lives

We long for this ONE THING with our hearts and souls, because it’s the very thing that could change our lives forever, but it feels just out of reach.

So, by now you’re likely wondering, “Well, what the heck it is?” and “Is it stopping me, too?!”

Well, my friend, my guess is that if it isn’t stopping you now, it’s stopped you in the past and will likely stop you again in the future. Which is why it’s so important to bring awareness to it now, so we can recognize when we’re letting it derail our best intentions.

That ONE THING that we desperately long for and vitally need is permission.

Permission to start the business, quit the job, say YES! or say no, speak our minds...you get the idea, right? :-)

In all my years of entrepreneurship and coaching (9 if you’re counting), I’ve come to see this same pattern surface again and again: brilliant, talented women stopping themselves from evolving into their fullest selves because they are waiting for someone (or something) to tell them it’s ok. To give them permission to do/become/be what they’re feeling called toward.

We’re dying for someone or something external to say to us, “Go for it. You’ve got this. No need to worry. It’ll all be ok. You have permission to do/become/be this.”

So instead, we stay put. We keep on doing what we’re doing because, hey, at least it’s familiar. But all the while there’s a gnawing feeling inside of us, beckoning us to start the business, quit the job, pursue the opportunity, etc. etc. etc.

And, if we live like that (in stuck-mode), we’re not really living at all. We’re putting our lives on hold for “someday” when the timing is right, or the money is there, or the right person is in our lives. But the truth is, we are the creators of our lives. We make the right time, we find the money, and we attract the right person when we’re bold enough to give ourselves permission to do so.

Permission is not bestowed upon you from an outside source, it is granted from within. It happens in an instant when you heed your soul’s calling. When you stop stopping yourself and just got for it. You may not have all the answers, and it may not turn out exactly the way you’re expecting, but you’ll be better for having given yourself the permission to give it a go.

And, if you’re still craving a bit of outside validation for your journey, here goes:

You are talented. You are enough. You are worthy (you were born that way). You possess talents, knowledge and gifts that make you unique from every other individual on this planet. It’s your time. It’s your turn. And, it’s all there for you if you’re bold enough to claim it.

Permission granted.

3 Simple Things to Stop Self-Sabotage in Business + Life

When I look back over the 7 looong years that I was a struggling entrepreneur, one thing is blatantly obvious. (Thank you 20-20 hindsight.) I was constantly getting in my own way!

I would pursue an idea, not fully believing in it.
I would berate myself with negative self-talk.
I would allow money blocks to stop me from investing and hiring the help I needed.
I would constantly question myself and if I really had what it takes to be a “success”.

Now, on this side of it, I realize that what was stopping me was ME!

That’s a tough realization to come to, but here’s the upside. If you’re the one stopping yourself, it means YOU are in control. The problem is you’re fighting for your limitations instead of working to release them.

If you’re warming up to the idea that YOU might be your own worst frenemy, then here are 3 simple things you can do, starting today to stop getting in your own way.

  1. Bring awareness to it! Yes, seriously, that is the first step. It’s that simple. We first need to recognize that how/when we are getting in our own way before we can start to change that behavior. Awareness creates space. It drives a tiny wedge between the true, steady, authentic you and the negative thoughts in your head. And, once we create that tiny crack, the light can start to get in :-)

  2. Don’t worry about why. Don’t get caught up in trying to figure out why you’re getting in your own way because that just perpetuates it. Instead, focus on moving forward. It starts by choosing thoughts that feel better. Again, super simple. Does it feel really crappy thinking about how little money you have in a bank? Stop dwelling on it! Worrying is like meditating on (or praying for) what you DO NOT want. When you focus on lack, you get more of the same. When you begin to release worry/doubt/negative self-talk/fear, you allow inspiration to enter.

  3. Create a mindset practice. Yes, it would be fabulous if we could address our self-sabotage once, and be done with it forever, but (at least in my case) it doesn’t work like that. That is where a Mindset Practice comes in -- doing small things every day to help support, maintain and expand your limitless mindset. My mindset practice includes morning meditation, daily yoga, reading, listening to inspiring teachings, journaling and positive self-talk throughout the day.
